The perfect experience for any gin lover! Gin Tasting with Cocktails …
Why 1689 Gin Bar
First imported from the Netherlands in the 1690s, gin began to rival beer as the most popular drink in the United Kingdom. In 1689, the English government opened the distilling trade to all English people who paid certain Taxes. Over the next sixty years, however, the government regulated the sale of gin with inconsistent taxation policy. The ready availability and low cost of gin led to a massive rise in alchol consumption in England, which became historically known as the "Gin Craze"; by the 1730s, consumption in London had risen to the equivalent of 2 pints per week per Londoner.
Gin today is produced in different ways from a wide range of herbal ingredients, giving rise to a number of distinct styles and brands. After juniper, gin tends to be flavoured with herbs, spices, floral or fruit flavours, or often a combination. It is commonly consumed mixed with tonic water . Gin is also often used as a base spirit to produce flavoured, gin-based liqueurs, for example sloe gin, traditionally produced by the addition of fruit, flavourings and sugar .
